Throughout the United States and the world, there are numerous sites which are rumored to be "haunted". Many of these are historic landmarks--old hotels, castles, battlegrounds and the like --and open to the public. It is far from surprising that these places host a ghost or two.

If a building or area was significantly important during a historical period and highly emotionally charged activities have taken place there (murders, wars, betrayals, suicides), it probably still holds that emotional charge. There are many reasons why a spirit doesn’t leave the earth plane after death. The person may not realize (s)he’s dead! Something dramatic may have happened just prior to death. The spirit may want to right a wrong. Or a spirit may like the earth vibration so much that (s)he doesn’t want to leave.
